Anacondas

The great Anaconda seems a mythical creature for most of us and is viewed with fear by many people. Really though they are just water boas and are quite fascinating!

We currently have three Anacondas at Snake Haus. Follow their links to see them.

Yellow Anaconda

Green Anaconda

Anaconda’s are WATER snakes. That means an enclosure should provide them the opportunity to submerge their whole body for extended amounts of time. Nature has allowed them to become the heaviest snake in the world. That is because they spend so much time in water as the water helps support their massive weight. They are able to move and hunt better from water, and often sleep underwater where they are most comfortable. Toad and Yoda each have an 8×4 foot heated water area inside their enclosures with a 24″ tall dry area above for basking and climbing when they want to dry off. It is our opinion that if you plan to keep an anaconda in captivity you should plan for a very large enclosure with both a swimming area and a dry area like what you see here. We have seen Toad and Toda both inside their under water hide boxes for well over an hour without coming up for air. This is NOT a snake that should be kept in a dry enclosure with only a small dish to drink out of.
