Bredl’s python: Morelia bredli

The Bredl’s python, also known as the Centralian python, is a desert species.  Over time their seclusion in the arid regions of central Australia’s outback has given them smaller scales to limit moisture loss, robust strong build for taking down large variety of prey, and the ability to travel extensively throughout their range in search of water.  As babies they are a muted brown or grey color but become reddish as they age.

Frey was born in 2010 and is quite spectacular.  She is already quite large and continues to grow.  She is very food motivated and will easily swallow a 2XL rat without much trouble.  We do not feed her food that large very often but once in a while a huge meal like that helps to calm her food motivation.  She is head shy and a little bit reactive so handling her requires care and patience.  When out of her enclosure she is rather inquisitive and likes to explore so she often needs help saying out of trouble!
